Description

RIDICULOUS SUBJECT MATTER WITH PRETENTIOUS TITLE FULL SPEED AHEAD.

So I read through Blade of the Immortal last week and was absolutely stunned at the beauty of Samura's art, especially at how he draws fabric: the way a sleeve hangs when it's wet, how cloth bunches at the elbows, how different weights of fabric hit the knees. There was one chapter where Makie throws some cloak or something that she'd been wearing up into the air, and I seriously stared at that thing floating in the air for several minutes trying to figure out how he got such an innocuous piece of fabric to do something so breathtakingly graceful with so few lines, and it gave me the itch to draw some fabric of my own. (Not that I've ever drawn IchiRuki with COMPLETELY IMPRACTICAL pieces of fabric floating around them before. OF COURSE NOT. /shifty eyes)

I should also add that this looks a little different from my usual style; I painted directly onto the scan this time rather than re-inking it in Manga Studio, papery texture and all. I kind of like the finished product, although I don't think I'll make a habit of it. Color scheme is courtesy of ~Jade-Sabre, who keeps insisting for some reason that I try colors other than blue.

I also invoke the Probably-Inadvisable-Posting-at-4:30-in-the-Morning Right of Revocation, which states quite clearly that this piece may be edited by the artist once the light of day reveals it wasn't nearly as done as the artist thought it was.

Man, I am so addicted those stupid swoopy fabric things I'm so sorry.
